Forgiveness

Life has a sneaky way of feeling uncontrollably awful sometimes. And even though those moments are in fact fleeting, they don't feel it. They feel overwhelming and crushing. We all feel  this way from time to time. No one is perfectly happy every moment. So, it bodes well for each of us to love and be sensitive to one another, and to share how we move on from our own guilt and pain.

I once heard a quote by Chieko Okazaki (LDS Relief Society general first counselor, 1990-1997) where she said, "Jesus is not waiting for us to be perfect. Perfect people do not need a Savior. He came to save people in their imperfections. He is the Lord of the Living and the living make mistakes. He is not embarrassed by us, angry at us, or shocked. He wants us in our brokeness, our unhappiness, in our guilt and in our grief."

I submit that He is not embarrassed, angry or shocked because He knows us too well. He knows where we are coming from. He knows what we want and who we want to be. And He, unlike us, understands how simply and easily we could change for the better if we but decide to give up our baggage to Him.

This is a hard reality to learn. It's hard because every mortal moment and human sensibility tells us something different. We feel embarrassed and ashamed. We shock and disappoint and anger ourselves. But we are mere humans, blinded by our forgetting souls. We place over Him our imperfect vision of ourselves and our spirit brothers and sisters and assume that because we think and feel one way that He must think and feel the same way.

That simply isn't true.

The Atonement, the Plan of Salvation, the Savoir's Love are not a shame game. We were not sent here to wallow in our own dissatisfaction and self-loathing. We were sent to overcome and learn through and with Christ's help.

He simply waits for us to allow His help.

And this I know to be true.

Love,
Nicole
