Disturbing Statistics & "Starter Marriages"

I like going to church.  I'm somewhat of what some call a "church nerd" and proud of it!  I like how church makes me feel, I like the discussions that happen at church, I like the hope that it provides. That is and was the reality with the exception of a few Sundays ago.

We were talking about the importance of marriage (every young single adult Mormon's favorite lesson--probably because we get it so much... :S ...).  During this warm and fuzzy talk the teacher, on a power point projection the size of the freakin' wall, pointed out a disturbing (and a little frightening) statistic about the women in Utah.  Apparently women between the ages of 18 and 22 have a 80% chance of getting married; women in Utah between the ages of 23 and 32 have a "30%" (which I think is just a friendly round up from something far more pitiful like 26%) chance of getting married.  THAT IS ONE INTENSE PLUMMET!  Then Utahan women between the ages of 33 and 40 almost reach the original percentage at a healthy 75% chance.  ***Note: This percentage is about women NOT men, because statically men between 21 and 31 are looking to marry a girl between 18 and 23 years old... just saying***

You may wonder why the high percentage, then the death dive, the the sudden climb is happening.  The answer is simple, it's called "The Problem of the Starter Marriage."  Men are marrying "women" between the ages of 18 and 22 then the marriage goes up in flames (because it's typically based on sexual attraction and little else). Then when that magical marriage goes caput the men (who initiate dating & ultimately purpose marriage) become embittered toward women until their early to mid thirties when they are ready to marry again.

So, what are us mid-twenty-somethings to do until we're scooped up into a second marriage?  Who knows? Not me.  I guess get careers and get rich until we think that we are (and maybe are) way too good for the "guys of our dreams."

Am I really the only person who thinks there is something wrong with that?
